It’s almost summer! We can’t wait! Can you? We want to make sure you have the best summer ever by maintaining your car, truck, or SUV before the mercury really rises. You don’t want to have car trouble while you’re on a family vacation or driving in the hot afternoons. Preventative car maintenance now will make sure you and your car stay cool and comfortable throughout the summer months. Let’s talk about the following services that are a good idea now rather than after the summer hits.
AC Check and Charge
The last thing you want while driving in hot summer weather is your vehicle’s air conditioner to go on the fritz. Can you imagine no cold air when it’s 80, 90, or 100 degrees outside? You can avoid this with an AC check and charge. We’ll test your AC system to make sure everything is working properly and to find any leaks. Then we’ll make the necessary repairs, charge it, and top-off or replace the refrigerant.
Brake System Inspection
Your vehicle’s brakes can actually fail if they get too hot. We don’t want you in a situation where you step on the brake pedal and nothing happens. Let us take a look at the pads to make sure they still have plenty of surface left. We’ll also inspect the rotors and calipers for warping or other wear, the fluid, the lines, and the master cylinder. We’ll make you have brake power all summer long that doesn’t overheat.
Coolant Flush and Fill
This one is kind of a no-brainer. Your engine runs hotter in the summer because it’s hot outside and the air drawn into the engine is hot. Now is the time for a coolant flush and fill as well as a radiator system inspection. Your vehicle needs more than coolant to prevent it from overheating. It also needs a working thermostat, fan, and a radiator and hoses that don’t leak. We’ll make sure your cooling system is fine.
Fresh Motor Oil
As your vehicle’s motor oil circulates through the engine lubricating parts it also draws the heat generated by the moving parts away from them. This helps keep them cool. If your motor oil is old and dirty, or if your oil filter is clogged, your vehicle will overheat. This can also damage engine parts because the oil cannot lubricate or cool them. Have your motor oil changed now and every 3,000 miles.
New Tires if Needed
Finally, hot summer roads are damaging to tires. If the tread on all four tires is fine, you’re good to go. Just make sure to have the tires rotated if they haven’t been done in over 6,000 miles. If your tire tread is low or worn down unevenly, or if there is damage to the sides of your tires, the hot road is going to blow the tire or tires out. Let us inspect your tires to make sure they don’t need to be replaced.
